Tomioka Tessai (1837-1924) was a literati painter and Confucian. He is often described as “the last literati painter” from his broad range of academic knowledge. On the basis of his extensive knowledge, he left more than 10,000 paintings and writings, particularly featuring Chinese classic themes.
